Lumière Classics

For the past 15 years, the Lumière Festival has demonstrated its commitment to and support for cinema past and present, by paying tribute to its history, celebrating its diversity and richness, and bringing together all those working to ensure its preservation and vitality.

The Lumière Classics label was created to highlight the finest restorations of 20th-century films each year and to encourage their (re)discovery. Films bearing this label are screened exclusively at the festival in the ‘New Restorations’ section, as well as in other sections of the festival. This label highlights the extent of the work carried out by archives, film libraries, rights holders, studios and foundations to restore both classics of film history and lesser-known films, all of which are equally essential to the global cinematic landscape.
